War of Wizards (WoW) is a strategy, fantasy, PBeM (Play By e-Mail) game involving wizards raising armies, managing resources and researching magic. As a player you can: Send heroes exploring towers, caves and graveyards, build armies and send them out to conquer your enemies, research the magic arts in areas ranging from Necromancy to Druidic, construct towns, defences and buildings such as Sages Guilds, Taverns, Ship Yards and Beast Pits, feed peasants generously or enslave them. Basically you can do as you wish.

The only restriction is surviving the onslaught of other wizards with similar megalomaniacal intentions. Diplomacy is the key, conversing with other wizards to trade resources, forge alliances and backstab others.

War of Wizard new Web Management Interface.

Well as many of you know we are replacing the old signup system with a new database back end and front end. Now that we have the order processor working and our first trial playtest running, the focus has gone back to the signup system.

Below is a link to a mock up of what the new web management interface may look like.

Game 1, Turn 0 Just Run

Well after rebuilding the server, setting up a new order management system we are ready to start our first play test. I expect things to be a little bumpy for the first few weeks. Focus now is on completings some of the integration with the new database and provide a website to login and see everything a player will need to see.

Thanks to the 14 playtesters who are going to help us through these next few weeks of very initial testing and development. Appreciated.

Any questions / comments or concerns please contact us.

WoW Update 16/9/09

Hi Guys,

The big news is, we're about to start the first play test. Initially, the game won't look any different to the old one but it is testing all the back end coding. As the game progresses, we will be trying to implement features such as systems allowing turns to run automatically once all orders are recieved/all players check a run turn box.

Receiving #WOW Orders

WoW ... literally ... I have spent the better part of two days trying to get email to be received by wow server that can then be on processed by the mail processor ... should have been a 10 minute configuration .... why so complicated ... one word SELinux ... I was just about at the point of turning the Linux security system off for good. However I finally managed to come up with a way to allow everything to work. Very frustrating couple of days ...

Soon will need some help from people with some basic system testing... Details to follow in the next few days.
Chris

Hi All, A quick weekly update to all.

So another week and some more progress ...

WoW - They Way Forward

Hi Guys,

Good to see so many of you are still floating around and interested in the WoW project. I'm just finishing up an MBA at Oxford University, so hopefully I have learnt something useful to apply to WoW. Having had a break from WoW, it's really good to be able to have a fresh look at it. Technology has advanced somewhat since we started the project 14 years ago, so hopefully some of our old ideas may now be more realistic to implement. Some good points have been emailed through the WDG already and to summarise;

WDG Back on the go!!!

Firstly thanks to everyone who has been busy posting on the WDG group with their suggestions on what can be done for the relaunch of WoW! There have been many fantastic suggestions posted over the last week. We have been capturing them all for later discussion as soon as we are ready.

At mimimum Harry or I will be posting a quick update at least weekly with our progress be it small or large so you know where we are at and what is happening next.
